We consulted. We deliberated. We took our time. We got there. That is grit.
Tyrendarra runs through everything we do - even, it turns out, the things it perhaps shouldn't have.
We believe in process. The process takes time. The process is ours. We are proud of the process.
Tyrendarra FNC has a Child Safety Policy. We would like to be transparent about the fact that it was written approximately one year ago, and that it has been in place throughout the period currently under public discussion. We feel this demonstrates real foresight on the part of the committee.
The policy is a very good document. It contains a number of clear commitments to child safety. We are proud of having written it. We are now in the process of also following it, which we feel represents a significant step forward and a natural evolution of our relationship with the policy.
We are also conducting a review into whether Working with Children Checks should be required of adults at the club. We acknowledge that the policy we wrote a year ago may have addressed this question. We are conducting the review ourselves to find out. We are leaning towards yes.

As many of you will be aware, Tyrendarra Football Netball Club has been at the centre of some national conversation recently. We want to take this opportunity to update our members, players, families and sponsors on how we feel things went, and to share some exciting commitments we have made for the future.
First and foremost, we want to say: we are incredibly proud of how this Club handled itself.
When the story broke, lesser clubs would have panicked. They would have made a knee-jerk decision. They would have caved immediately to public pressure without going through a careful, expert-led, parent-inclusive process first. We did not do that. We stood firm. We consulted. We took our time. We did things properly. And then, after careful further reflection and some very important phone calls, we updated our position. That is what good governance looks like.
Yes, it took a few weeks. Yes, it made national news. Yes, several sponsors rang us. But the important thing is that we got there. And we got there as a Club. Together.
We would like to address a few things that have been said about us in the media and in the community.
Some people suggested we should have acted sooner. With respect, those people did not go through the process we went through. They did not sit in the rooms we sat in. They did not receive the expert advice we received. They did not consult the parents we consulted. It is very easy to have an opinion when you have not done any of that work. We did the work. We are very proud of the work. The work ultimately led us to the same conclusion everyone else reached immediately, but the journey was ours and we feel that counts for something.
Some people also suggested that having a convicted child sex offender at a children's sports club was, quote, "an obvious problem that required no deliberation." We hear that feedback. We think it is a little uncharitable to a Committee that gave up many evenings to deliberate on it.
We would also like to acknowledge our sponsors, who reached out during this period with their thoughts and concerns. Their passion for child safety was genuinely moving, and we were very grateful for their engagement. We hope to welcome them back to the Club in due course. Their feedback, along with feedback from many other sources, was all part of the rich tapestry of input that helped us reach our final position.
Now, on to the exciting part.
As a direct result of this experience, the Tyrendarra Football Netball Club is proud to announce a suite of governance improvements that will make us a leader in child safety across the Hampden Football Netball League. We are thrilled to be doing this. We cannot believe we get to do this. Here is what we are announcing:
We want to close by saying this: Tyrendarra Football Netball Club has come through this episode stronger, wiser, and more committed than ever to being a Club that children and families can be proud of. We are not the same Club we were three weeks ago. We are better. The process made us better. The expert advice made us better. The sponsors made us better. The national media coverage, while a little uncomfortable at times, ultimately made us better.
We look forward to seeing you all on the field.
Go the Mighty Tyrendarra.
The following is reproduced from the club's official Instagram, posted 28 October 2025.
A classy midfielder/forward flanker, Jimmy brings speed, toughness, and scoreboard impact every time he pulls on the jumper.
He's strong at the contest, clean under pressure, and a genuine threat up forward - the kind of player who lifts the team when it matters most.
Whether it's a crunch tackle, a burst through traffic, or a goal from the arc, Jimmy delivers. And with another season in the green and gold, we know he'll be setting the standard again.
This award has since been withdrawn following a governance process the club is very proud of. Jimmy Williams is no longer part of the club and will not return. This post remained live on the club's Instagram for several weeks after this fact became known.
The following was distributed to all club members the day before the story broke nationally. We reproduce it here in full, because we feel it speaks for itself.

Hi everyone,
We want to make all players, coaches and members aware that there may be a negative media story released regarding the club in the coming days.
We ask that everyone please refrain from making comments publicly, including on social media, or engaging in online discussions surrounding the matter. This includes sharing posts, screenshots, opinions or speculation.
If approached directly by media or members of the public, we encourage you not to provide comment and instead refer any enquiries to the following club executive members:
The club acknowledges that public discussion and media coverage may be upsetting or uncomfortable for some members of the community.
The committee encourages anyone requiring support to seek assistance through trusted support or relevant support services.
The club remains committed to providing a respectful, safe and supportive environment for all members.
As always, we encourage everyone to continue representing the club respectfully and professionally both online and in person.

TFNC Committee
This communication was sent to members the day before the story broke. The club was aware of what was coming. Members were asked not to comment publicly or share information.
The letter describes the media story as potentially "upsetting or uncomfortable." It does not describe what the story is about, or why it exists, or what the club had done - or not done - to prevent it.
It closes by affirming that "the club remains committed to providing a respectful, safe and supportive environment for all members." This was the same club that had been deliberating for weeks over whether a convicted child sex offender should be removed.
Events will be posted here when announced.
